The story so far...

2007 was a great year for Alex Kent and marked his pro DJ career really starting to kick off. Competition wins, special guest slots and several mix CDs later and 2008 is shaping up to be a blinder.

A last-minute entry into the Future Groove Competition at Digital (formerly The Zap) in Brighton proved to be a successful first mission into clubland, going head-to-head against some of the South's finest up-and-coming DJs. Alex scored highly in all areas, including technical ability and tune selection, despite the judge 'wishing him luck' for starting with Mighty Dub Katz "Magic Carpet Ride." Alex won the contest, spurring him to consider taking DJing beyond a hobby.

Alex Kent continued his musical development into house and techno, inspired by the influx of summer parties. Just before a holiday to Ibiza for the closing parties in September, Alex went to the HardSouth birthday bash at Brighton's Honey Club, headlined by the queen of hard dance, Lisa Lashes. As Lisa was finishing her set, it became apparent that the resident DJ due to follow would not able to make it. With a packed dance floor and Lashes having it, the promoter asked if there was a DJ in the house.

Despite not playing the "hard stuff" for months, Alex quickly grabbed his CDs and took up his place behind the decks. The DJ that he was covering for had a great reputation for rounding off the night in true hedonistic and banging style, so the pressure was on!

Stepping up, Alex played a selection of classic belters to keep the party going, and was criticised only by the bouncers for making it too hard for them to clear the dance floor at the end of the night.

Ten days in Ibiza only fuelled his ambition and provided the inspiration for several mix compilations. Alex, influenced by the speakers of Space and DC10, produced "Serious Grooves," an energetic mix of house, techno and electronica, featuring some of the best up and coming tracks from producers such as Rob Mooney and Simon Blann.

Since then, Alex Kent has been busy, releasing several mixes on download, most notably "A Harder State of Trance." The "Super Sub" nickname bestowed on him after stepping in at HardSouth paid off, with Alex being lined up for the January event at the Honey Club as a special guest, to great success. He drew praise for his quality brand of hard trance from even the most seasoned punters - including his own collaboration with Chrysus on "Brightdon"— for both tune selection and technical ability.
